What is Textured Skin? (and What Causes It?)
Skin texture is the condition of the surface of your skin. Textured skin is bumpy, uneven skin that is caused by a buildup of dead skin cells and sebum. Texture can also be caused by acne scarring and aging.
Most people want their skin to look smooth, but texture is a common struggle for many people as it has so many diverse causes. However, texture can be treated with a good skincare routine and healthier lifestyle choices.

1. Cleansing
Youโve probably heard of double cleansing, the world-wide skincare phenomenon that was born in South Korea. The concept is simple: use an oil-based cleanser as your first step, and then follow it up with a water-based foaming cleanser.
But why? Well, simple soap and water canโt remove oil or oil-based impurities from your skin. Water and oil donโt mix. So, you need an oil-based cleanser to remove that oil-based debris from your skin: like makeup, sunscreen, sebum, and other pollution.
Once you get rid of that entire gunk, your second-step water-based cleanser can reach deeper into the skin and remove dirt, sweat, and grime. Therefore, you get a much more thorough, penetrative cleanse.

Centella Asiatica and Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extracts in Toning Gel relieve sunburn, atopy, irritation, and pain on the skin, especially after facial treatments.

3. Peeling
Every once in a while, you have to exfoliate your skin. Maybe once or twice a week, depending on your skin type and what products you use. Exfoliating is essential for those who want a brighter, healthier glow on their skin. And that’s because exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells by breaking the bonds that glue them together, allowing new skin cells to rise to the surface.
Exfoliating, or peeling, can also be a kind of ‘third-step’ cleansing. Your exfoliating product can get rid of any of the deeply hidden dirt and debris in your pores that your first two cleansers missed.
Peeling can help get rid of the damaged skin cells that manifest as fine lines or wrinkles on your face. Peel away those cells and replace them with bright, soft, youthful skin!
Physical exfoliant with pineapple and papaya extracts. Exfoliates dull skin and unclogs pores to remove dead skin cells without causing irritation. Suitable to use on sensitive skin.
The Daily Botanicals Enzyme Peel is a gentle, gommage peel. ‘Gommage’ comes from the French word for ‘erasing’. A gommage peel works by applying a cream or paste to the skin, letting it sit for a minute or so, and then rubbing the product into the skin. When rubbed, the product will curl up into little balls that resemble something like pencil shavings, taking your dead skin along with it.
Most gommage peels contain enzymes which act as the exfoliating agents. The Daily Botanicals Enzyme Peel contains Pineapple and Papaya enzymes and extracts to exfoliate dull skin and unclog pores gently.
The inclusion of Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract works to protect the skin with its antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. This helps to make the product suitable for even very sensitive or acne prone skin.

Chemical exfoliant that removes dead skin cells effectively with 24.5% AHA and 0.5% BHA. Contains Panthenol which soothes, moisturizes, and reduces inflammation.
The Double Peel is a chemical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants work differently from gommage peels or traditional physical peels like scrubs.
A chemical peel is a skin exfoliant with a pH of around 2.0. Chemical Peels typically contain acids called AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids). These are chemical exfoliants that remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin.
AHAs work by reducing the concentration of calcium ions in the skin which promotes the shedding of surface-level skin cells (If youโve heard of Glycolic or Lactic Acid, youโve heard of AHas)
BHAs do much of the same, but they provide antibacterial benefits. One BHA youโre probably already familiar with is Salicylic Acid, commonly used to treat acne.
Chemical Peeling with such acids provide a variety of benefits for our skin. They can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, revive dull skin, remove dark spots, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, and even improve acne.
This product has an optimum AHA:BHA ratio of 24.5% AHA to 0.5% BHA. It also contains panthenol to soothe, moisturize, and calm inflammation.
To use the Double Peel:
- After toner, apply an adequate amount on the skin (avoid the eye areas)
- Let sit for 1-2 minutes if you have normal skin, 2-3 minutes for oily skin, and 30 secs – 1 min for senstive skin.
- Use once a week, or according to your skin type.
4. Ampoules
You might be wondering, “what is the difference between an ampoule and a serum?” or even “why do I need to use an ampoule in the first place?” Well, an ampoule is essentially a super extra potent serum that targets a specific skin concern. After cleansing, preferably with OxygenCeuticals’ Purifying Foaming Wash or Gentle Facial Cleansing Lotion, apply the Skin Balancing Toner to soothe redness and balance the skin to its natural pH level. Afterwards, apply the Couperose Fluid for a boost of moisture and calming power. Finally use the Couperose Cream to lock in that moisture while its botanical ingredients reduces inflammation on the skin.
To use the CC Starter Kit:
- Cleanse with Purifying Foaming Wash or Gentle Facial Cleansing Lotion.
- Apply Skin Balancing Toner onto the skin with a cotton pad.
